When I think of being CREATIVE at home, I think of the saying, "relax, relate, release." And we're encouraging you to take time to do just that:

Relax: Enjoy time with one another
Relate: Focus on the Word
Release: Let 'em speak

Relax: Enjoy time with one another
Little things make a big impact. So, let them see you be a little more carefree. Go on a walk or bike ride. This is a great way to bond. They'll see you having fun and opening up, and they may even open up in a more relaxed atmosphere. And if the outdoors isn't for you, make a visit from the tickle monster. Watch their faces light up as they enjoy your efforts to make them smile.

Relate: Focus on the Word.
Sample Scripture: John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life.

  • Read this verse to your child...of if they are old enough, let them read it to you first. Then read it back. Then ask and discuss these questions:
  • What does God's love look like? (Examples: He woke you up. He keeps you safe. You can also stretch your arms out and say God loves you this much and more.)
  • Why did He decide to love you? (He just does. Isn't that cool, and God loves you even more than mommy and daddy)
  • Who is God's Son? (Jesus)
  • Did you know Jesus died for you? (let them know why he died for us also...so we could live with him forever.)
  • When you get done, don't forget to show God's love. Give them a hug and let 'em know that you love them.

Release: Let 'em speak.
Let their imaginations go wild. Let them share with you some of their wildest dreams. An easy starter question is "if you could be any animal, what would you be and why?" Or if you know your child is having problems at school or church, let them talk to you about it. No matter how random or focused, the point is that they're communicating.
